Natives Nursery

Houston Audubon’s Natives Nursery at the Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary specializes in local native prairie grasses and wildflowers with a small selection of understory plants. The plants sold are grown only from seed collected in coastal prairie remnants in Harris or surrounding counties. These seeds were collected and planted by the hands of dedicated Houston Audubon staff and volunteers. The Natives Nursery fills a unique niche by offering native plants not readily found elsewhere.

Plant Sales

Plants can be purchased online on our  website with pick-up on Friday mornings from 8 – 11 am at the Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary.

To order plants, visit our online store

Please Note: Our plants are all “real-deal” native plants and may look different than the picture. We will do our best to give you the best possible plants available, but we won’t have the ability to swap plants out at pick-up or accept returns. Purchasers will not be able to pick their individual plants. All plant sales are final. When purchasing, items in your cart are not held until you complete check out. If you have any questions, please feel free to email the Natives Nursery Manager at nativesnursery@houstonaudubon.org.

Our plant list changes regularly, so please contact us for details.

Volunteer at the Natives Nursery!

Every Wednesday and Friday morning, Houston Audubon volunteers work in the nursery separating seedlings and bumping up wildflowers and grasses into 1-gallon containers. The plants are used in coastal prairie restoration projects or are offered for sale in support of the Bird-Friendly Community program. If you would like to join the volunteers, contact the Natives Nursery Manager at nativesnursery@houstonaudubon.org.

Donate Your Nursery Pots!

Houston Audubon is always on the quest to limit our use of single-use plastic - including in the nursery! Because of this, we love reusing our 1-gallon nursery pots as many times as we can! If you purchased plants from us or another nursery and have these pots laying around, we would be happy to take them off your hands.

To donate the pots, feel free to come by our Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary whenever we're open. You will see the nursery on your right just after you pass our admin building as you drive in through the gate off of Wilchester Blvd. You can place the pots inside the fence to the nursery and we'll take care of the rest!

We're ONLY taking 1-gallon sized pots at the moment.

If you have questions, please email nativesnursery@houstonaudubon.org.

Did You Know?

Northern Mockingbirds have been known to so skillfully imitate sounds such as squeaky gate hinges, sirens, and barking dogs that even an acoustical analysis could not tell the difference between the mockingbird and the original sound.
